Creating Evaluations

Evaluations give you a structured way to run one-on-one performance reviews with your team. You can schedule them in advance, choose the type of review, and record the outcome, such as a salary change or a role change, directly on the employee’s profile.

This article covers who can create evaluations, the types available, how to add a new evaluation, and what happens after you create one. Many companies run these reviews every three or six months, depending on their culture, but you can schedule them on whatever cadence fits your team.

The Evaluations list

Who can create evaluations

Evaluations are created by an Admin or a Manager, depending on how your organization is set up. Managers create and track evaluations for their direct reports.

The HR role has view access only. HR can see the evaluations of employees in their teams but cannot create, edit, or delete them.

Employees see only their own evaluations. They cannot create or request an evaluation from their profile. If an employee feels it is time for a new review, they ask their manager, an HR person, or an admin to schedule one for them.

For more on how roles map to permissions, see Roles and Permissions.

Evaluation types

Every review has a different purpose, so Growee lets you pick the right type before you start. Growee ships with two default types, Technical and Salary, and you can add more to match your company’s processes, such as a 360-degree review or a development plan.

Evaluation types are managed in Configurations by an admin or manager. To create your own types, see Managing Evaluations and Criteria.

Add an evaluation

  1. Open the Evaluations module.
  2. Start a new evaluation.
  3. Fill in the fields below.
  4. Save the evaluation.

The evaluation form asks for:

  • Employee: the person being evaluated.
  • Person assigned: who will conduct the evaluation.
  • Evaluation date: the date the review takes place.
  • Evaluation type: the type of review, for example technical or salary.
  • Notify date: optional. Set a date to notify the evaluated person in advance.

You can create as many future evaluations as you need. Growee does not limit how many you can schedule, and their dates can be changed later.

After you create an evaluation

Once the evaluation is saved, an email goes to the employee being evaluated with the details of the review. Managers and HR are also notified so everyone shows up prepared.

Before the evaluation date, Growee sends a reminder email, usually one to two days ahead, so the review is not forgotten. The email includes a Check Evaluation button that opens the full details of the upcoming review.

Record salary and role changes

An evaluation is also where you capture the outcome of the review. Within an evaluation you can log role changes and promotions and record or update compensation, including setting new salary information as part of the process.

These changes are reflected automatically in the employee’s timeline, giving you a clear, chronological history of how each person has progressed. See Employee Profiles for how this history appears.

Find your evaluations

All evaluations, past and upcoming, live in the Evaluations module. You can filter the list by employee, evaluation type, evaluator, or date to find any review in seconds, and view upcoming evaluations at a glance to plan review cycles across the team.

Evaluation details are visible only to HR, managers, and admins. Employees can see their own evaluations but not those of other people.
