From confusion to clarity: Why your team needs real-time leave data

Hello again!

If you’re already using Growee to manage holidays, you’ll love this small but powerful addition: the Balances feature. It gives you full visibility into each employee’s leave days - past, present, and future - so you can manage time off without the usual confusion or back-and-forth.

When managing time off in a small or medium business, things can get messy fast. A forgotten leave request, a spreadsheet that’s not up to date, or confusion over remaining days—all of these can lead to misunderstandings, payroll issues, and frustrated teams.

That’s why we built Balances - a small but powerful tool inside Growee that helps Admins stay in control and employees stay informed.

What the Balances feature does

The Balances section is an extension of Growee’s Holidays feature, created specifically for Admins. It gives you a simple, up-to-date overview of:

  • Each employee’s starting balance, calculated based on their contract and start date
  • The current balance after approved time off
  • Adjustments, both manual and automatic
  • Leave history, including carryovers from previous years
  • Different policies, with flexibility for part-time or custom contracts

You can view and edit everything in one place - no digging through emails or chasing Excel files.

Let’s look at a real-world example

Imagine your team member, Cristi, starts the year with 21 leave days.

He takes 2 days off in March. After the request is approved in Growee, his balance is automatically updated: he now has 19 days remaining. Simple.

But let’s say Cristi actually has a special agreement to start the year with 24 days instead of 21. You can easily go into Balances and adjust that - no need to ask HR to recalculate anything or make a note in another file. The number updates instantly.

What happens without a system like this?

Let’s take two fictional companies:

A busy creative agency

The manager thinks Emma has 3 days left. Emma thinks she has 5. No one’s checked the actual balance since last summer. She books a long weekend, but payroll flags an overuse later. Frustration builds.

A growing SaaS startup

They track leave in a shared Google Sheet. It's been working - until two people edit it at the same time and overwrite each other’s rows. One person ends up with negative days and doesn’t notice until they’re denied future time off.

Now multiply this across 15, 30, or 50 employees. Errors pile up. And employees lose trust in how leave is tracked.

Why this matters for your team

Leave is a benefit. It should feel smooth, not stressful. When balances are clear and visible:

  • Employees don’t have to ask or guess how many days they have
  • Managers can plan better without the back-and-forth
  • HR saves time by avoiding manual tracking
  • Mistakes are prevented, and policies are respected

And when everyone knows where they stand, they’re more likely to take time off when they need it - which leads to a healthier, more balanced team. See more details on how this work in the video below:

Final thought

Small tools like Balances can have a big impact. They reduce confusion, prevent mistakes, and make leave management feel effortless - for everyone.

If you’re already using Growee, give the Balances section a look.

And if you’re still tracking time off manually, ask yourself:
How much time (and stress) could this save us?

Let Growee do the heavy lifting - so you can focus on what really matters: building a team that works well and rests well.
